The strategy conversations, the what-ifs, the moment a reforecast actually changed a decision - that was always the best part of FP&A. What I couldn't stand was how we got there: 14-tab headcount models, four-hour reconciliations, reforecast cycles that ate the month they were meant to plan.
So I stepped out - not to come back and fix it. I went to build other things.
What I didn't know I was building
I ran BI teams and watched finance data finally move the way it should. I shipped AI stack at Fortune-scale and learned the part nobody talks about: AI is only as good as the data layer underneath. Last year I co-founded an agentic-AI platform from zero - the kind of work that teaches you fast the difference between talking about AI and shipping it.
The dots connected a few months ago, when a finance leader close to me came home frustrated about yet another stalled FP&A rollout. She walked me through what wasn't working - the rigid setup, the workarounds, the implementation that kept slipping. A lot of it sounded familiar. I'd spent a decade quietly assembling the exact toolkit this problem needed. Every one of those chapters was training data for what I'm building now.
What I'm building differently
With most FP&A tools, there are three handoffs between you and anyone who can actually change something - sales, implementation, support. I wanted to cut all of that out. The team that builds Novaplan is the same team that configures it for you - we learn your GL structure, your planning cycle, and your pain points, and we build your stack to match.
I've sat through the reconciliation marathons and the board presentations. That experience shapes every configuration and custom feature we ship - because we know what actually matters to the people using it.
And we don't think your data should live in our walls. Novaplan plugs into the LLM you already use - Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, anything that speaks MCP - so your team can ask the same questions, run the same skills, and get the same numbers without leaving the chat they trust. Your tokens, your model, your permissions. We're building a stack you bring tools to, not one you have to live inside.
A global tech company is already running real budgets and headcount plans on Novaplan today. We're at the beginning of something that doesn't come around often - the moment when AI makes it possible to rethink how FP&A actually works. I'd love for you to be part of it.
